The Top Eight!

The Friend Award

I am honored to have received The Friend Award from my good friend Leng! Leng got me super interested in blogging back in March 2008. I was inspired by her food blog and I was impressed that she devoted so much time and effort into sharing her healthy lifestyle with the online world.

The description below is taken from Leng's blog:

This award is bestowed on to blogs that are exceedingly charming. These kind bloggers aim to find and be friends. The are not interested in self-aggrandizement. Our hope is that when the ribbons of these prizes are cut, even more friendships are propagated. Please give more attention to these writers. Deliver this award to 8 bloggers who must choose 8 more bloggers and include this cleverly-written text into the body of the award.

The blogs listed below are among my favorites. One thing that keeps me coming back to these eight over and over again is that most of the writers seem to have a silly or quirky side (Leng, Michelle, Kelsey, Brooke, Kath, Nate), and Leng and Kelsey have tons of great pet pics! However, I am also drawn to well written content and writers who live a healthy life that I hope to emulate (Leng & Gena & Jena). Lastly, I appreciate food bloggers who understand the importance of eating well, exercising, and have a realistic approach to eating whether it be veggie, vegan, raw, or just eating whole food or eating locally.

Here they are:

Leng: A Fat Cat Who Created a Vegetarian
http://lengslog.wordpress.com/

Leng lives a healthy veggie lifestyle and is an animal lover as well. Visit her site to see pics of her kitties and new puppy Loomis. Leng also cooks lots of yummy Southeast Asian food so stop by if you want to learn how to make pho and other noodle and rice dishes. She's also a fantastic baker!

Gena: Choosing Raw
http://www.choosingraw.com/

Gena's blog is wonderfully written. The highlights of this blog are that Gena makes a point to tell her readers that there is not a single eating plan that will work for everyone. She is very open-minded to individual needs and capabilities. She eats at high raw/vegan diet and posts amazing recipes. She also has great tips for how you can slowly go raw or vegan.

Kelsey: Bites and Bowls
http://bitesandbowls.com/
Kelsey lives a very fun and active life which consists of cooking, practicing lots of yoga, and playing with her sweet puppies. She is realistic about food and shows how it is possible to indulge without having to feel guilty.

Michelle: Oh Wanderlust
http://far-and-awayyyy.blogspot.com/

Michelle's blog is a a journal of her ongoing trip through Europe. Her approach to traveling is pretty relaxed and she is always open to new adventures. Though only in her early 20s, Michelle is having the adventure of a lifetime and I am impressed that she is able to navigate her way around various countries on her own.

Nate: The Blogstalker
http://www.theblogstalker.com/

Super funny blog, especially if you read a lot of food blogs. Nate reviews several food blogs every week and then summarizes the content. He makes sure to include the important details like who has new nail polish, who is giving away free stuff, and who is eating a ton of oatmeal. His dog Gilbert is pretty cute as well.

Brooke: Homegirl Can Eat
http://homegirlcaneat.wordpress.com/

I read this blog for three reasons:
1. Brooke spends a lot of time in my favorite city, San Francisco and her love for the city almost rivals mine.
2. She is a teenager and super smart and funny, plus she eats really well.
3. I learn lots of new slang and lingo. So bossy and fabby!

Kath: Kath Eats Real Food
http://www.katheats.com/

Perhaps the #1 food blog out there. Kath presents a realistic and healthy approach to eating well and exercising. Her blog likely attracts so many readers because of the balance she presents. She eats well but does not follow any specific dietary restriction except that she tries to incorporate as many real foods as possible into her diet. Her food photos are some of the best and my most favorite part about the blog is that her bears are incorporated into some of the posts and are often shown in great mischief!

Jena: Eat, Live, Run
http://eatliverun.com/

A food writer and runner with serious culinary skills. A great blog due to the gorgeous food shots, Jena's well-balanced approach to eating, and her 8 minute ab workout shows serious results! Try it!
